TRT051- Transportation Technician 2- 90961- Lab Test Tech 1
JOB SUMMARY : Under general supervision, provides working level technical support in one or more of the following areas: materials, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, environmental or traffic.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: Under general supervision, serve as a journeyman level tester, performing routine to complex testing on various materials used in highway construction. Record results, calculate and analyze data to determine acceptability of materials. Operate, maintain and calibrate various testing equipment and tools used in construction materials testing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications
STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma /GED AND One year of experience at the lower level (TRT050)
OR
Position equivalent.
AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
oSuccessfully completion of the Engineering Skills Development Course (ESD) with first year of employment, coursework include.
oPossesses a working knowledge of laboratory testing/materials specifications, manuals and of standard testing methods and procedures.
oAbility to learn calibrate and/or operate laboratory testing equipment.
oDemonstrated ability to read, comprehend and interpret standard testing manuals, appropriate charts and graphs.
oAbility to learn to record test data, label samples and/or prepare reports pertaining to sampling and testing.
oAbility to learn to perform mathematical calculations related to laboratory testing including percentages and formulas.
oPossesses knowledge of Department of Transportation standard testing operating practices
oAbility to adapt to new testing equipment and/or procedures.
oWillingness and ability to display a high level of commitment toward work and a high standard of ethical conduct and to provide quality service to customers.
oPossesses the physical strength, agility and eye-hand coordination necessary to perform the core responsibilities of the job.
oAbility to work effectively with others to resolve differences.
oAbility to develop alternative solutions to testing problems.
oPossesses the stamina to perform testing for extended periods of time.
The interview is just one part of the overall selection process and is not the only criteria used to make the final selection. In addition to the interview, the final selection is based on the applicant's work history and performance (documented in HR and/or Office files), PeopleSoft/employee status (i.e. rehire code), employee performance reviews, personnel file review (HR & Office Files), criminal background check, employment reference checks (including references and commendations from Managers and other relevant documentation) and, for supervisory positions, demonstrated leadership skills based on past and current work history will be considered.
